I am a 2nd year dental student about to undergo a bilateral sagittal split osteotomy to correct a large overjet - basically, my teeth don't fit together correctly. The surgery will move my lower jaw (mandible) forward so that it fits together with my upper jaw (maxilla). I have wanted to do this since high school, but now that the surgery looms large, I must admit I feel apprehensive. I will document the whole process here. Hope this might be interesting/helpful to someone else.

hi.. mind me asking how long you had to wait after the braces went on to get the surgery?
Thanks for posting all this. I'm a dental student and having this put into patient's point of view is very cool. Looking good!
Mmm Im not sure if you even still check this page, but I wanna thank youu! I just got the surgery like 16 days ago, & seeing this page helped me. It got me prepared:) which made the recovery process much easier. I can't wait til all my swelling goes down & get my braces off. But again thank you!!
Really enjoyed reading your blog. My daughter just went through this last night. It was good for her to see the progress. I tried to get her to take pictures, but she has refused. :( I know it makes it easier to see you process. Thanks againf or sharing
Are you glad you had this done? My sixteen year old is wanting this done.
Thank you for documenting this! My 12yo failed with the Herbst appliance and her orthodontist feels this is the appropriate move. I'm an RN, so I don't love the thought of surgery for a non-life-threatening illness. You did a very nice job putting this all together. :)
