I am a 2nd year dental student about to undergo a bilateral sagittal split osteotomy to correct a large overjet - basically, my teeth don't fit together correctly. The surgery will move my lower jaw (mandible) forward so that it fits together with my upper jaw (maxilla). I have wanted to do this since high school, but now that the surgery looms large, I must admit I feel apprehensive. I will document the whole process here. Hope this might be interesting/helpful to someone else.

You look great! I am thinking about surgery also. Just got my insurance pre-determination back and they said it would be covered. It would just be a mandibular surgery. My bite and profile looks very similar to yours...except that I have a slightly bigger open bite. At any rate my teeth are pretty straight just like yours...I also had braces when I was younger and didn't continue to wear my retainers like I should have...so my wisdom teeth pushed both my bottom and top 2 teeth out of line slightly. I was just curious how long you were in braces before surgery and after? it probably says somewhere in here but I didn't see it. And interestingly...my name is also Kari...maybe this is a sign...ha! I am 30 and thinking I need to just get this over with but it is a bit scary!! However, your results are awesome and these posts I find like yours really help the decision making. So, thanks for creating this blog for people to see.
